28mm Warhammer Knights - Which army? How do I base them?

Hello all -- I just bought the FoG rulebook and I'm keen to the system. I have some old, unpainted plastic 28 mm Warhammer Brettonians that I am thinking of basing up and painting for FoG. Any suggestions for an army that these models would jive with? I'm thinking Medieval period of course. French? Britons? I don't know a lot about historical warfare.
Would the French Army Under King Phillipe be appropriate?
Would the army be fairly straight-forward to use? Well-rounded? A good "learning" army?
Also in the FoG rulebook it lists the King Phillipe knights things like this:
- 4 x Men-at-Arms Knights, Lancers, Heavily Armoured, Undrilled, Superior
- 4 x Men-at-Arms Knights, Lancers, Heavily Armoured, Undrilled, Superior
- 4 x Men-at-Arms Knights, Lancers, Heavily Armoured, Undrilled, Superior
- 4 x Men-at-Arms Knights, Lancers, Heavily Armoured, Undrilled, Superior
Is this describing four bases of models w/4 models per base? Sixteen bases with w/3 models each (for a total of 48)? Or simply 16 models on four bases? This part isn't really explicit in the FoG book (at least where I could find it).
I guess if I'm looking at 48 knights, I'd have to buff up my knight supplies. At the cost of Citadel miniatures, I may be better off starting from scratch with 15mm. And then I guess I'd go Hoplites/Spartans
Thanks for reading my post. I'm sorry but I couldn't find a topic that gives much more detail on converted Bretonnian army composition. (Though I did find a thread about basing Brettonians, but that's another topic.)
Thanks!

4 BGs of 4 stands each of knights and knights are based 3 per stand. So 4 battlegroups of 12 knights (=4 stands) each.

Thank you!
Is there anywhere in the U.S. where I can order plastic 60mm by 30mm stands?

Since confusion with Light Horse would not be an issue, you could base your Knights at 2 per base if that solves your problem of number of figures - but note you'll want a few single figures for commanders on their own bases. probably get by basing the Knights 2 per base. This also assumes you will fill out the army with other troops. With 16 bases of Superior Knights, you could take an Inspired Commander in Chief and 2 Tactical Commanders to lead the Knights and if you add 6 bases each of 3 or 4 Crossbowmen and of 3 Swordsmen you have 590 points by my reckoning, starter army size and close to the 650 often used in larger scale games. The extra points would let you fit in 2 additional modest battle groups for 8 BGs total at 650 points.

Echoing what MikeK said, you would probably struggle to fit 3 GW knights on a 60mm base anyway, so may be better to go for two figures per base.
If you need more, you can pick them up very cheaply on ebay.
If you're still pondering whether to stick to 28mm or start from scratch in 15mm, then you should consider who your local opponents are likely to be and what scale they play in. 15mm are much cheaper and much quicker to paint. Even if you have to add only a few metal figures to your GW plastics, it could be cheaper going with 15mm and starting from scratch.
Back to your original question about what army they would be suited for - I'm no expert on the period, but most western medieval knights from a particular date would look pretty similar so these would be suitable for a few armies. I think the Brettonian army was modelled on 100YW English and French armies. If you have loads of Brettonian archers (which you can also pick up very cheaply on ebay) then you can add some dismounted men-at-arms and billmen and have a 100YW English army.
The picture on the front of Storm of Arrows is presumably a French knight charging an English archer from the early 14th C I think (pre stakes) and the knight looks like the GW Brettonian ones.

There are a number of Warhammer models that could be used for FoG. Most of the Bretonian range could be used for 100YW. The English knights probably wouldn't be armed too much differently than the French (but don't quote me, my speciality is Ancient history). The archers would be..well...archers, maybe longbowmen. The Men-at-Arms could represent any number of lower class infantry units.
For late Medieval Germans / Northern Italians, the Empire would have some appropriate models. The Knights are pretty much wearing Gothic armour and the Infantry (Halberdiers, Swordsmen, Spearmen, Handgunners) would be appropriate for the period.
You could probably use the Tomb Kings as post-Nuclear holocaust New Kingdom Egyptians, but other than that, Bretonians and Empire would be your best bet for cheap (sorta) and easily obtainable 28mm plastics.

We use 2 mounts and riders per cav base for knights, other heavy cav, cav and light horse/cav. No problems so far. Our knights do look like knights, normally with barded horse, lots of armour on the riders. LH are just that light mounts and little/no armour on the riders.

Actually laughed at that one. NKE - and they could double as a fantasy force.
Indeed, one of the great things about medievals is that with a few customizations (e.g., unique units, flags) the same troops can fit in a variety of armies, even if as allies or mercenaries rather than native troops.
