Original CEAW owners - a little treat from us

This is a special gift to all our loyal fans who already have the original CEAW, not the Military History CEAW version.
We are giving away all the upgrades for MH CEAW to you for free! We never intended to cash in with MHCEAW and sell it to you twice so just to make sure nobody else goes out and buys it we're giving it to you

Having said that - you really should try it on DS and PSP - it's really cool!
This update includes all bug fixes, data changes, and most importantly the 6 new fast play campaigns! This will allow also you to play against MHCEAW gold owners in multiplayer.
Before we announce this to the public we wanted a few people to grab this update and check it all works ok. Let us know if you have any problems. If you can grab this update and let us know if you have any problems that wodl be great.
To ensure this update works with all PC versions of CEAW from any retailer, digital download, CD in any language we have created it as a zip file, not an installer. This makes it a little less user friendly but does mean everyone can use it.
Download the zip from
http://www.slitherine.com/files/ceaw/pa ... h_1.12.zip
Once it has downloaded open the zip file. Choose to extract the zip file to the folder that you installed the game to. The default would be something like Program Files\Slitherine\Commander Europe at War.
Then run the game. You'll know it is working if you see a new pop up at the start asking if you want to play the Fast Play maps or not. You should also see a new version number 1.12 on the main menu.
Bear in mind this will not allow you to load any saves from a previous version, so please complete any games before applying the upgrade.
Ok, go ahead and enjoy it and let us know if it works for you. Plese keep this quiet for now as we'll do a full announcement when we know it's working as intended.

Sigh.
My Slitherine version of CEAW has been a nuisance (most as I format re install my OS frequently) and I went and grabbed a Matrix Edition which has simpler install protocols.
But all the same, kudos to Slitherine for this generous decision.

This update will work with the Matrix verison as its a zip file, not an installer, and we have given the files to Matrix to prepare a patch so you can get it either way

Don't worry!

Okay, does this mean what I think it does?
1. I live in Canada, so I can't get Gold edition yet unless I do a direct-to-PC download and pay in Pounds Sterling.
2. I can buy the old C-EAW, though.
3. I can then upgrade the old C-EAW with this free download and thus...
4. Magically transform it into MHC-EAW Gold?
5. That way, I won't have to wait for an undisclosed North American release date?
That doesn't sound too bad...

Nevermind, 20 British Pounds Sterling is significantly less expensive than 60 United States Dollars (but why isn't CEAW on Amazon.ca?).
Anyway, I assume North Americans can buy MHC-EAW for PC via direct download from Slitherine without worrying about jurisdictional issues?

CEAW does not have a disc version, it is primarily a digital download. Some publishers in some territories have released a disc version but its not widely available at retail.
MHCEAW has much wider penetration at retail because of the branding and PSP and DS versions.
The MHCEAW PC version we sell can be bought anywhere in the world, but currently its only a digital download. We dont have stock of the disks yet - retail took them all and the next print run has not arrived yet! The only restrictions are imposed by the format holder's (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) so unless we are selling a game for their formats we can do what we like.
I understand that its confusing....but the simple answer is yes you can get the download from us

Thanks for this - seems to have copied/installed fine on my Matrix version of the game.
Not had time to play it as yet but I am keen to have a go at some of the fast-play scenarios which leads me to a couple of questions.
1. I assume that the fast-play is only for PBEM or TCP/IP multiplayer.
2. I can't find anything that tells me about the fast-play scenarios, how do they differ from the standard campaigns, how long are they, how do you win them.

1. No..., I made the PC Gold Fast Play version with the same support for single, hotseat, pbem, tcpip as I did for the original CEAW. The DS/PSP version only has single player though so
PC>DS/PSP in this case
2. They are the same basic scenarios and victory conditions but at a very different scale. instead of 150x72 you play on 75x36 so only a quarter the amount of hexes. I changed all scripts and some minor gameplay changes (such as ZOC penalty reduces) so that units fit the new scale. That means terrain penalties, unit stats and technology values are now changed.
I also tweaked the AI ofcourse to make it fit the new scale

I have several PBEM games going with v1.06. What impact does this patch have on those games? Does everyone need to download the patch and apply at the same time or will we lose the ability to continue the existing games if we install the patch. What version does the patch create?

I'm not quite ready to update as I have several PBEM games going at the time and don't want to lose them.
But, when I'm eventually ready will the patch work with any installed version of CEaW? For example, I currently have CEaW v1.06 installed. Is there any difference if I patch this version versus, say v1.07 or an earlier version (e.g., v1.05)?
Also, it'd be interesting to see what happens when our mod (BJR) for v 1.06 is applied to the top of all that.

Unfortunately you cannot continue saved games when we do a version update so you'll need to complete your existing games before applying the upgrade. It's to do with data format changes and fixes to teh location of the saved files.
All files are now in My Docs so much easier to find.

Thanks for the earlier reply.
I've had a go at the 1939 fast-play (played Axis with FoW) good fun game.
Only typo I spotted was that the Italian starting Sub unit was labled as a Corps, everything alse seemed fine on a first run through though it took me a bit of time to realise that some costal hexes that were mainly land were actualy sea which explained why I couldn't move into them with my panzers (evenualy spotted that a different shading to these hexes)

Staffenberg, Happycat, myself (rkr1958), joerock22, dmbgamer have updated to CEaW 1.12 (gold) and then have applied the BJR mod. We've restarted our games and while all these games are still in 1939 all seems well. The only update (so far) that we've confirmed that needs to be made to the BJR mod is a cosmetic one, see
viewtopic.php?p=82980#82980 and effects only one file ("message_eng.txt").
My initial experience with CEaW 1.12 (gold), either with and without the BJR mod, is that it plays faster and smoother. Also the fact that the BJR mod technically plays the same as it did under CEaW 1.06 is, I think, a tribute to Borger's (i.e., Staffenburg's) skill and ability to work "under of the hood" of CEaW. I'm continually amazed at what he was able to do with the game under our mod. See
viewtopic.php?p=76704#76704 and check out the following (all of which are included in the zip download),
CEaW BJR mod (BJR stands for Borger, Jim and Ronnie) is a mod to the CEaW 1939-scenario
