Allies Cross Reference

Not sure where to put this, so here goes:

Is there some way to make a cross reference that shows who (whom?) an army can be an ally of; as opposed to who their allies are?

Confused?

OK, I have a Big Battle DBA army of Post Roman Brits. I don't have enough to make 800 points, but I could make a decent ally. The way the books are, I have to look through every list (within reason) to see what lists are allowed PRB's as an ally. Just a for instance; maybe a bad one :oops:

None that I'm aware off. We are working on something like that but better don't hold your breath. ETA is sometime after StE comes out.

I was working on including that along with ratings of available allies (poll-based) for each army as part of another project, but it eats up a LOT of text relative to other information unless you use volume/page shorthand, in which case it's cryptic.

So discussion/rating of an army would include a rating of allied choices:
5 = valuable or must have
4 = good synergy
3 = offers troop variety
2 = rarely useful troops
1 = more of the same
0 = none

So a high rating would encourage people to look up the allied lists to see the details.

This ties in with the list of other armies which it could serve as an ally, which could flag those cases identified where it would be a 4 or 5 value as an ally. For example, both Palmyran and Jewish armies can be turned into pretty good Roman armies.

OK, I'll be patient. Just glad someone is working on it.

The ranking system sounds interesting too.

I have been working up an Excel Spreadsheet that does exactly what you are looking for (I think). I would be more than willing to post it here or send it to the powers that be if they prefer. I have completed the reference for four of the companion books and am beginning work on a 5th.

That would be excellent. Would you be willing to send it to me to look over :D

I have complete an Excel Spreadsheet of using the currently published companions books. If the JD and the authors are agreeable, I will post it here or send it over for them to peruse and use as they see fit. Once Swifter than Eagles comes out I will update as soon as possible.

I'm slowly working through adding comments about specific allies to the army pages in the FoG wiki on my site, like on this page:

Having a copy of spreadsheet with them all cross referenced would help me speed this process up greatly !

Any errors you find are strictly mine. Post here if you find any and I will update when I get Swifter than Eagles.

John,

I have opened it from two different computers here at work and it has worked fine. Don't have a clue as to what it might be.

I was just looking thru the list and it stops at "Swiss"? No "T", "U", "V", etc?

Did mine somehow not print the whole thing?

Also, could not find Seljuk Turk under "S"; are they an ally somewhere?

Thanks,
John

John,

It looks like only the 1st 15 pages of the 22 page document was converted. It should actually end with the Ziyarids. The Seljuk Turks are under Turks. I adopted this convention to conform with the standard used when Slitherine put together the initial army list that is posted on the Field of Glory site.
