Red Star Advice Request

Started playing again doing a Russian run through with release of Red Steel. I’ve done the American campaigns and British Burma so familiar with basic mechanics. I am trying to run through on level 4. All going well until Barbarossa starts. The deluge of experienced tank and infantry with air has been challenging. I have done a run through to carefully save RP and have about 2k at the start of German invasion.

Can anyone share some tactics. I am ready to invest in tanks - the KV2 looks good if can protect flanks. The kv1940 is nice but I hate the unreliable problems. anti tank guns seem like peashooters doing nothing. What approach do ppl take? I got melted first couple of run throughs.

I’m on the last mission and I used a lot of engineers, cheap anti-tank(45mm M1937) and anti-aircraft guns(37mm M1939) for protection.
An artillery unit can be useful to weaken the opponent.

I'd use as backbone T34s, maybe one or two KVs in Red Star, if you can sustain them. Overall a good combi of inf, arty, at plus few AA should do. 37mm AT isn't too great, yes, but as backup or to pick off weakended mechanized units they'll do, and are cheap to replace.

Also, if you intend to play the follow-up DLC(s) building up units in several classes helps once upgrades are ready. Which is rather late for AT admittedly, but still worth if used correctly.

Key in Lithuania is to remain flexible once you have the intial "hold" objective secured. Avoid getting overwhelmed, instead retreat and repair if needed. This is especially important if you use some of those stronger units like KV-2 - they're great, but slow, and if they come under multiple attacks in a row they'll suffer at some pt, which is costly RP wise.

Sounds rather similar to what's described here: viewtopic.php?f=264&t=98755
