My most recent game "again" had me sitting in a village but it not being recorded as captured. I sat there until the scenario time ran out, and it still didn't allow me to change ownership of the key point.

I have played the game and could win the map by moving the skirmisher to the last settlement owned by Demonspawn. Was that your issue?
I can't see what the problem is, but I have attached the savegame (had to pick a hero for you) so you can continue.

when I took over an early settlement, its ownership didn't change. when a unit took over the last settlement of the demonspawn, this one previously conquered settlement stayed demonspawn the entire game still. I couldn't change it.

That is strange - but could you continue playing? so was it possible to win?

The game would continue, but the ability to win more gold was empty. There was no "end" to the game. I could simply run around the map.

Ah, ok understood. We will look at that.
