Remind me how to disband planes

I've developed the unspeakable habit of spending to the hilt on fighters to wipe out the enemy airforce, and when they've done their job I want to sell them off as war surplus by disbanding them to get their prest pts back, but their 'Disband' button is greyed out and it says something like "can only be disbanded in a supply source hex".
But how do we get them to such a hex?

It requires a supply hex next to or on an airfield.

It may require opening the scenario in the editor. . . .

You pretty much have to rebase the aircraft you want to disband to an empty supply hex airfield.

Yes, the aircraft has to be right on top of an airfield with a supply hex (I don't think it works if they're just based there).

This is infact a problem and do not really like the implementation. Supply hexes should work for ground units and aircraft on a separate base. So you are able to buy and disband ground units with supply hex in a city and you are able to buy and disband aircraft with a supply hex on an airfield.

Buying aircraft at any airfield but disbanding aircraft on suply hexes based in cities is bad choice.

Best regards

I don't think you need a city to disband air units they just need to be on the airfield hex and not simply next to it.

One other question- does disbanding a unit mid scenario refund prestige? It never did in PC1

Yes, assuming it's a core unit (and the prestige is tied to the current strength of the unit). No refunds for auxiliaries, though.

You do not need a city to disband a unit, but you need to locate the plane over a supply hex (with a movement action still available) and supply hexes are located in cities most of the time. So disbanding aircraft is very limited. I do not speculate about, I have tested this.

I did use the feature to disband units a lot in old PC and I do so in PC2. But for planes it is very limited.

My suggestion is to have supply hexes on airbases and limit buying aircraft to supply hexes like it is for ground units. So when there are supply hexes located on airbases the problem is almost solved.

PzC1 has exit hexes, and in the pre-Beta discussions of PzC2 the Devs said PzC2 would have them too.

Nico's GC mod added them to all the scenarios.
I got into the habit of loading up on fighters early in a scenario and withdrawing most and replacing with ground units.

Since the 'Scenario Design' forum appears to be an open Beta right now, such features may be showing up in the next few months.

Good to know thanks.

I've been running some tests and they confirm much of what's been said by posters, namely that we can only disband planes that begin the turn sitting in a supply source hex-
Pic 1- These planes are all adjacent to an airfield and one plane is actually sitting in the airfield hex, but the Disband button is greyed out for it and all the rest-
Image

Pic 2- Here I've re-based them to an airfield near a supply source hex, and now I can Disband the plane that's sitting in the sup source hex, but the Disband buttons for all the rest are greyed out
Image

SUMMARY- When planes return from a mission they fly to a random hex in or adjacent to an airfield, so it's just pure luck whether a plane returns to a sup source hex there so that we can disband it.
PS- the test shots are from the Random Mission Generator (v1.1.0), I'm totally hooked on it, I've chosen to be the Brits in this battle but you also can choose to be German, American, Italian, Russian, and choose the AI nationality too for the years 1939-1945.

PS- HEY I've just noticed my planes in the screenshots haven't got any roundels! It must be because I've been trying different graphics settings. Below is what they look like normally-
