Hi There
Need a bit of a help been practicing for the last four or five weeks for the Challenge in April. Just when I think I have it all planned I decide to add a Ally well they can bring 4 units of four bases each either LH or Cav both undrilled unprotected average bow/sword. Take either LH or Cav or 2 of each any help welcome.

Go on then Dave, why not ask an easy question ;)

More seriously it depends on what other things you have in your army. If you have a lot of cavalry I would tend to go with most or all light horse. If you have limited cavalry then a couple of BGs of cavalry is probably a good idea.

It depends on what is in the rest of your army?

LH are more flexible but they can be bullied by Cv. If they are Superior I'd go Cv.

Sorry to be of no help whatsoever.

I sure if you were at my club you'd be asking is that what you call practicing. I could play for ten weeks and I'd still be just as bad. But at least mostly I have a laugh and before Phil says it so do my opponents.... :) and now they've put the list for Britcon up now which army again.

with undrilled unprotected I would be very nervous of taking them as cav - the lack of expand and move, and requireing a CMT to expand can leave them in serious 2+ to hit doodoo

They are very powerful troops, at a potentially very cheap cost.

The main problem is that they are exceptionally difficult to use. As Paul points out, getting shot at with ++ is very unpleasant indeed, but one BG of four Cavalry in a single rank can scare away multitudes of LH.

I am experimenting with these in the Skythians. Put down last in conjunction with masses of LH they can be very good. However, if you make a mess of it, they are undrilled and can't get out of trouble very quickly....

I think I am trying to say that in the right place at the right time they can be devastating, but in the wrong place at the wrong time they are 2 Attrition Points waiting to happen.

I think I will try 1 BG on monday night one with a general to aid the CMT expand and take the other three as LH BG. Its this needing to be in the right place thats got me, not being a great player I think maybe more than 1 BG Cav and I might come unstuck. As Dave says maybe 1 BG of Cav can scare of some lights with three LH BG as support.

You might consider 1 Cav and 2 LH as a useful brigading. An extra Cav could do something else such as assisting the heavies.
