reCAPTCHA is anti-social, as it endeavours to not only uniquely identify individuals by the timing of their responses, and proclivity for clicking pixels in a particular pattern, it then makes the data available to big-data companies who can then deploy this information against users through advertising or penalizing prices.

Slitherine and its partners ought to be aware of this issue, look for alternatives and support Freedom where possible. hCAPTCHA is one possiblity.

Privacy Pass is touted by hCAPTCHA as a step in the right direction, but it is unfortunately working in conjunction with Cloudflare, who are becoming a kind of gateway to the internet, a potential throttle point for a a large percentage of websites.
There are a number of open source alternatives which ought to be top of the list, if an "Are you human?" check is really required.
