I'm looking for a new game. How's the AI in this game? I only play vs. the AI. I'm satisified with the AI in Panzer Corps and although it's a completely different scale, the latest Strategic Command series.
Thanks for any opinions.

Ornery. For the designer that is. Once he gets it to do what he wants, more or less, it seems adequate for the task. The interesting thing is in that statement. It doesn't always
do what the designer wants! It "thinks" for itself. Thus, if the designer wants a unit to move, but the AI deems that movement risky in terms of losing a victory or supply point, the AI overrules the instruction. That actually is a good sign. Another one is that the AI will vary its response to instructions, even when it deigns to comply in general.

As a player, I find the AI pretty good as an opponent, but a little predictable once you figure out the mechanics of the game and how the AI operates, what they go after (soft targets that will garner high casualties, like artillery, recon, engineers, and AA guns). There are a few "WTF did they do that for" moments, but those are actually rare. Balanced and challenging at times, depending on the level you play at.

You can download the game for free and play the small Bootcamp campaign to get a feel for the game and the mechanics.
