What moves can a kinked column make

This ties in with some other recent threads, and also relates to a situation that came up in a game last night.
If a BG is in a one base wide column and it wheels so that there is a kink in the column, what can it do on it's next turn ?
Can it :
Expand
Turn 90
Turn 180
Turn 90 and move
(all subject to CMTs where applicable of course)

Or must it move forwards to straighten out the kink before doing any of the above ?

If it can do these whilst kinked then how does it work ?

All done on/relative to the position of the front element.

Did we ever find out where the 'behind' the column is for rear support? Is it to the rear of the front base?

somewhere I read a post about columns kinking and it was posted that you don't actually kink it (this was in relation to a wheel move by the column) you wheel the front units and any following units remain facing the original direction until there is enough movement for them to complete the wheel in the next turn then they join in behind the rest of the column. You don't actually leave units in a kinked semi wheeled move you just march up to the wheel point and they stop there until the next move.

So I guess your next turns move would be as phil stated its based on the position of the front unit in the column.
