My problem is probably just a mental block. Apparently I do not know how to assign a HERO. I have a HERO. If I try to end the DEPLOYMENT turn a message appears "saying I have a unassigned HERO" I have played the Tutorial where HEROS are not discussed. I search around the display but can not find a menu dealing with assigning a HERO. I can see the menu which listd Hero's positive and negative traits. Could someone please unblock my brain

Press the "i" icon on one of your units.

Or target a unit and hit the "i" key on the keyboard. It will be up an information screen. Then hit the Heroes "tab" on the left and then the "Assign Hero" button. Viola.

There may be a glitch were the add hero button tells you its not your turn, to fix this, select the camoufalge or insignia panel and then go back to the hero. For some people this seems to fix it.
This bug has already been fixed and will be in the next patch.

Switching between two units without closing the unit information window also does the trick!
