Enemy lost last supply hex, no effect

I am at the Kiev scenario. The task is to destroy 88 enemy units. After taking all the supply points in the east I expected that the remaining enemy units should suffer a encirclement penalty because they can no longer trace a line of supply to a supply hex. Is there an invisible supply hex on the map, maybe an off-map supply hex or did I miss some details?

It's not specified in the supply section of the manual, an oversight probably, but on page 82 you can find the following information:
All edges of the map also count as supply hexes, so if a unit is able to trace a valid path to a map edge it will also be able to avoid encirclement.

Thank you! I've read through the manual but must have used the wrong glasses and missed the information.

But it is strange. The whole point of sending part of army group centre to the south is to cut of the Kiev army. The German army already occupies the west of the Ukraine. The Kiev scenario has a series of supply points near the eastern edge of the map. Seems logical that occupying the supply hexes closes the gap and therefor makes it possible to capture the remnants of the Russian army. As it is now the supply hexes do completely nothing and suggest strategic possibilities that do not exist. It would have been better not to include supply hexes on the map.

I haven't played the Kiev map yet, as I went with Army Group North, but I think you have a point. I suppose the supply hexes only serve as to give you a prestige boost, but some mechanical feature, i.e. the Russian units getting some sort of penalty, would have been relevant.

On the other hand, playing the devil's advocate, you could point to the fact that a lot of Russian units that got encircled during 1941 fought very hard despite being out of supply, much to the surprise of the German military staff. So maybe there shouldn't be any significant effects after all.

You still have to manual enforce the encirclement and you actually do not need to take the cities listed in the briefing. If you surround Kiew from the west and then move the southern infantry units slightly north, you can cut off Kiev but only Kiev alone. That is an example for playing the Barb. Center branch,
