Hi everybody,
As you all know Caesar IV will be released this fall. As a die hard Rome fan I really loved its predcessor Caesar III. In contrast to the more military oriented Legion you have all the features of a living ancient Roman city.
Are there many Caesar III fans among this forum community
The best game in my view would be a kind of "merger" of Caser series city managment and Legion Arena combat engine

Each city on the map should be manageable like in Caesar while combat scenarios are fought out like in Legion Arena.
Well, I really hope Legion II will be like that.
Greetings,
Aurelian

I am a Caesar III fan. Actually I am even a greater Caesar II fan...
With Province management and battles like the ones in Spartan, Caesar II has the best design of all city-building games. Now if Slitherine could do that in Legion II, that would be huge.
Meanwhile, i will buy CIV IV too...

I much preferred CII to CIII. The larger Province map and the ability to fight battles in the field, instead of having every encounter as an attack by a handful of individual figures against the city walls, gave it different "layers" of tactics and strategy, and made it seem a lot more credible. CIII added a number of new goodies and options to the city map, but took away a lot more than it gained, in my opinion. They seem to have fallen into the "better graphics = better game" mentality. Again, it's the same thing that made the Slitherine empire games more credible than the more arcade-like "TW" series.

I have caeser three. I prefer emporer as a building sim, though, as it is harder to do things like wallspam, (Rows of ballista towers) prefect spam (My dad fought off invading hordes by simply sending several hundred prefects after them... And sold the weapons). And you can multiplay, and crush other provinces.

Compared to Pharoah and Caesar III, Caesar II is much much better. The options on the Province map are endless. Connect cities, build Ports, farms, cohorts, walls and the lot of that. Fend off invaders do battle on the battlefield. So what I am hoping for is that they return more to the Caesar II in Caesar IV.

Quite agree with you kiwusek, in most RTSG you have basically the civilian and the military side of the game on one screen. I prefer separation. Its easier to handle. When I am sitting in front of the screen I want to develop a grand strategy and not clicking frantically around with my mouse.

If Sierra (am i right?) manages to bring back the features of Caesar II (Provincial, Empire and city maps, as well as battles) into Caesar IV, they will utterly destroy this year's competitors- Civcity: Rome, and Glory of Rome.
Graphics-wise, its quite a tight fight, but I must say that Caesar IV also took this spot...
