Random Scenario Nation Choices

In single or multiplayer, it appears one can only choose 1 nation to play but not who to play against.
Unless I am missing something...why is this?
Fighting the USA vs the USA (mp hotseat) seemed...weird.

Eddie,

The random scenario issue really needs some attention and will get it I hope.

A little off-topic, but are we still able to open the equipment.pzeqp file and others for text modding?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,
This game has a ton of folders & files.
It does not appear to be 'modder friendly' atm.
Hoping the Editor is top notch, haven't checked it out yet.

Random map generator does have an option to specify a nation for each player, and you can see it if you generate a random map in the Editor (Tools -> Random Map, Factions tab). Main reason why it is not in the game yet is, UI screen where it is supposed to be configured is very complex and given limited time before the release, we decided that it was lower priority than other things. After all, random scenario throws a completely random challenge at you every time, and random enemies are part of this. And fighting against the same nation can be looked at as some kind of wargame.

But yes, this functionality will appear in the game in the future.

Creating random battles in the editor is not a good workaround.

Editors still need to script the AI units. Without scripting they will just sit there.

Random scenarios generated in the Editor are exactly the same as random scenarios generated in game. Behind the scene the game invokes the Editor to generate a map with specified parameters.

So the random battles only have units that are stationary?

No. The AI decides what to do with them itself.

Well that clears things up for now & thank you Rudankort for doing so.

This is a must-be-fixed for me- allow the player to choose the sides.

"Random" dies not apply to the forces, either- as the enemy side is always the same as yours.

I'm totally baffled by this, as a both concept and as a reality.

Using the Editor allows for creating/generating maps while offering the choices of nations to play with & against.
I missed this earlier so kudos for the 'devs' for this excellent Editor & all its' features.

Except So far I havent been able find anyway to make these maps work in online multiplayer no amount of trying to do it myself or asking for guidence has resulted in any help to do so.

I can guess this is one of the to do list? I have no idea.

Yes, that is disappointing. I noticed where the MP Scenarios are located that each MP Scenario has 3 files.
When one creates & saves a generated map from the Editor, it only gives 2 files; a map file & a pz2scn file.
In the MP Scenario folder the 3rd file is a lua file (basically a text file).
I tried creating a lua file for a 2 player map & tried to load it via 'Hotseat'.
Did not work, I need to investigate further as I am sure this is where the issue lies.

NO eddie its not the issue ..

it maybe part of the issue ... but I copied renamed an existing mutiplayer scenario even changed the names inside the files to match the name of the scenario file the same as the it was on the copied file still did not show in the hot seat or the multiplayer list or custom scenario ..

I could random gen a map edit the parameters and make it work for a 2 human vs 2 ai hotseat game but the game showed in a new game custom scene location in game not in the hotseat area. ( didnt have a lua file or need one...) It maybe you can create one but I couldnt make much sense of the lua manual ...

Still waiting on answers on so many things

The lua manual is irrelevant.
You need the PzC2 variables and function calls which aren't part of lua as such.

A lua file is not necessary for a scenario.
Its used for advanced scripting.
Multiplayer shouldn't have much[any?] scripting.
