Somehting that came up in a recent game, Spanish versus Romans. My Romans were about 1 MU or less away from a unit of spanish lights who had Spanish heavies directly behind them, may have been touching or were just short of the lights can't recall.

During the Spanish turn he wanted to charge through his lights into my Romans, I didnt think he would have the room since his base depth was of his battle group was deeper than the room between me and his lights. He said he can interpenetrate lights so I let him do it anyway.

First is this a legal charge and second what units would have been disordered and where would the lights have ended up? We moved them behind the chargers and counted them disordered till they ran back to their rear.

End result was that the legionaries ended up eating the Spanish who held out for a few turns but eventually atuobroke.

You cannot voluntarily interpenetrate anything in a charge.

You must do so, involuntarily, if the potential chargers are shock troops who fail a test

On the face of it it is not a legal charge.
page 47 Interpenetrations "no interpenetrations are permitted when charging"

There are certain occasions when shock troops in charge range may fail a test to charge and then burst through whatever is in front of them in which case I think the unit burst through drops a cohesion level.

cheers

Did they charge through or did they fail the test and burst through? Can say I remember....but ya, you can't charge through....if the spanish impact foot fail the test they will burst through...i think one BG went and the other passed the test.

I have to remember to NOT have the commanders with them when they do that test :)...and NO rear support!!! ehehehe...

Not so much a worry w the roman heavies....more to have the spanish LF come right up to your archers and the MF behind burst through so they don't take a round of arrows or javelins going in!

Oh, Pompey's getting a bit too big for his helmet :P...we've arranged another little surprise for him for tomorrow! LF lesson 3 :P

ahaha :)
