Flank charged in a non-flank charge

Hi. I´ll try to explain the situation.
"A" is a 8 base spearmen unit. "B" are enemy scythed chariots (two units of two chariots each)
AAAA
AAAA
BBBB
Now, the spearmen player contracts before I can pin him:
AA
AA
AA
AA
BBBB.
I charge. The chariots on the left make a frontal charge. The chariots on the right have enough movement to charge a flank element in a non-flank charge by pivoting a bit.
AA B
AAB
AA
AA
BB
Ok, let´s suppose the chariots on the right touch the last element of the group, the one who does not have another element behind him. Would it have the + POA due to spearmen?

Short answer: yes,
Longer answer: Last bullet in the flank charges section (P57) "is treated as a normal charge on the enemy front". If you charge the front of the formation then all the ranks count.

All bases can fight as a non-flank charge.
So if you can create this 4 base to 4 base contact then its 8 vs 8 dice with normal POAs the same as the ones at the front.
Its your choice as charger generally, so only do it if that is of benefit to you.
Thereafter you conform to the front and end up with 3 chariots fighting - 1 as an overlap.
Odd situation, but covered by the rules as far as I can see.

Actually if all 4 chariot bases manage to contact 4 different spear bases (which would be qhite hard I think) then it would be 12 dice to 8

It would. Thanks for the quick reply. As I was not sure, I only charged with the left chariot BG, while passed the test not to charge with the one on the right. Bad decision. I would have had 9 dice vs 6, instead of 6vs4 and an overlap during melee phase.

Actually I think it is completely illegal.
The chariot without an enemy to the front would have to wheel within 1 MU to contact the side of the spear unit. So it wouldn't be a legal flank charge. As its not a legal flank charge and the spear are engaged to their front you would not be allowed to contact the spear at all, only fight as an overlap.

Reread that rule on wheeling into a flank charge. It is not
no wheel within 1 MU it is
no wheel if you started within 1 MU and in the diagram it looks as if they are more than 1 MU away.
In this case it is not a flank charge because the charging BG did not have a complete base behind the flank.
You are allowed to contact the third rank and further back even if the front two are in combat. This is clarified in the FAQ IIRC.
Also this restriction only applies if the target bases are already in melee. If you charge the front and the flank in a non-flank charge at the same time, then you can hit the front two ranks.
So the move is legal.
