Is this right?

Hey all,

stumbled across a independent army. Two things odd with it...
First, how come it has 6 Rex Custodiae? They are supposed to be unique right?
And second, something i also ran into in other playthroughs, the independent's are a far greater threat to nations then other nations in germany.... they are always way stronger and obliterate complete nations in my playthrough...Doesn't seem to be a check on them like supply, so they keep growing...

what seems to happen is if 2 armies of a particular ethnic faction (or slaves) enter the same region then they merge. So if, as can happen, you have a large area lacking any factions (& Germany is often like this due to the civil wars - but you also sometimes see this when the Seleucids collapse) then over time these large stacks can grow.

I don't think the independents pay for food, I guess they are seen as pillaging (? not sure here) and I think that when they spawn they get a mix of units drawn from what their faction could have. So you get mobile Rex as you have here.

It is planned (for the next patch) to nerf progressively too big indep stacks, rest assured. To avoid the 'wrecker ball of doom' issue. Well, you'll still suffer from it, but it will dwindle over time, like a giant horde of warriors that melt away.

What would have happened though if the Cimbri had not been held in check by Rome?

Absolutely agree. I have run into Germanian armies consisting of 152 UNITS!!!!!!!!!!!!! not strength points.

152, that's wow.

My 1st playthrough ended today because of "just" 29 units camping right next to my capital. I had made it to a glorious tribal chiefdom by then and had ignored the "independants" for most of the time. Then they conquered my capital ... I conquered it back, 20 turns later they conquered it again ... and again, and again, and again, and again. I didn't know how to defeat those stacks, so I lost that game. There was no way of beating 6x Rex.

But, oh well, how do I put this nicely? If this is know since January, then why hasn't this been patched?

I've fairly recently raised this issue of mega-indie factions (that only fight you, not each other) with regard to the semi-related issue of double/triple-dip succession wars as a Tribe/Horde. At the time word was that something would be in the next patch to address this.

Indeps stack were nerfed, they lose 10% of their strength per turn above a certain limit. As for multiple unique units, it was a bug and should not appear again in the next patch.
