FOG II Tastes Better the Second Time

I bought Field of Glory II two years ago, got part way through first tutorial, and decided I had too many other games to play. Lost interest mainly because this game engine was the same as Battle Academy and Pike&Shot, two other games I purchased in the past which I did not much enjoy. I don't know, I'm maybe too used to hex based games (63 years old), the squares and that mouse technique to pick a maneuver, especially turning in place, just did not sit well with me. So FOG II was uninstalled, ignored...

Two years later I get the Ancient itch. Oh well, reinstall FOG II via Steam and let me give it one more effort. Wow, "Mostly Positive" on user reviews, and look at those DLCs, oh my, but let me get through the tutorial battles first.

I'm a complete narrow minded idiot!!! After finishing the tutorials, I was generating Custom Battles and playing larger battles and was completely hooked. Hey, this engine actually rocks!!! It is perfect for Ancients. The overall experience is awesome and the work the developers did on this title is exceptional. The 3D presentation for the battles is perfect. Even the UI is really good, the entire presentation is very professional and hits the ancient gaming nail right on the head.

Now I believe FOG II is one of the best titles I've ever owned. And it sat in my library for two years being ignored. Now I can't break away from it. Truly a digital drug with addiction assured.

Of course, I immediately purchase all the DLCs and FOG Empires. So much game to play, barely scratched the surface, and yet... "When is the next DLC?" :)

Glad you are enjoying the game. As you are using the STEAM version, perhaps you could leave a review there?

I've mentioned a few times on here how I shuffled my feet for over a year about buying it and I ended up the same way, completely taken. Youtube play throughs finally sold me. The best part about waiting though was that I had four dlcs to buy along with it, and Wolves came out four months later. So I didn't suffer pining away for each new release. I had a nice huge chunk of content right up front.

You should cut and paste your post and use it as a Steam review. It says everything that needs to be said.

Starting to play in multiplayer tournaments was necessary for me to realize the full potential of this system!

It is a very respectable game when you play scenarios and campaigns single player, no doubt.

But multiplayer is overwhelming.

Did a "recommend" Steam review. Can't say enough good things about FOG II now.

Two weeks ago I had only 2 hours on Steam for FOG II after two years ownership. Now it is already 61 hours and I will not be surprised I'm playing this game for another ten years. Reading, WW2 gaming+CMO, VR Racing, now Ancients gaming done right. Good thing I'm retired and have all the time I need. Well, not quite, wish I could drop the need to sleep.

I can't quite define what enthralls me so much about this game. Everything works together well, the ebb and flow of the battle, the choices to make, the visuals, the sound, the overall presentation, the ease of play, the challenge of improving your odds, the amount of army options and time periods, it is just an amazing accomplishment.

Hope the DLC keep coming. Though my plate is full, please keep piling it on!!!

The sponsored tournaments are a great way to get into some controlled multi-player action. The competition is friendly and quite instructive...also humbling.

Cheers!

I agree the Digital League tournaments and the Slitherine tournaments make this great game even better fun.
