Effect of dead leader or new government

It would have effect on diplomatic relations when a leader dies or a new government replaces the old one. For better or for worse. Allies can claim they are the new leader and war errupts or accept becoming a client, this too can work two ways. War can stop because the fight was never against the people but against the tyrant. All kind of schemes are possible with a new ruler. How do the players think of such events ?

Well I don't recall a historic event where a nation achieved peace in an ongoing war specifically because their ruler died (only defeat).
On the other hand, many wars started against a nation immediately after their ruler died, because usually the new ruler/government has a weaker hold over its nation at the beginning of their rule. So I completely agree with you that there should be penalties/bonuses related to length of ruler reign (CK2 has it), to make the game more realistic and encourage enemies to attack when a ruler dies. If they make this possible, devs can also add intrigue options like support in-fight to increase chances that a ruler is assassinated by a rival faction.
PS: reign length penalties/bonuses will indeed also increase difficulty of an ongoing war, increasing chances of immediate defeat and peace requested due to death of ruler. Anyway a great idea Hendricus.

Personal grudges , love interest or ethnicity all come to mind. The new leader or government can end the war just because the former leader started it. Thanks for your warm words.
