Greetings Everyone,

I've been in an 19th century mode as of late, and I have come across this game. I totally wish there was a demo of it out, so I can get an understanding of the game and all, but I figure I might as well just ask here.

I'm thinking of buying, but I have a couple of questions first.

1) from the IGN review, it stated that this game was similar to Panzer General, so is this is true?

2) Now, I this is a hex based game, and all, therefore to me for these kind of games, its not made up in graphics, it is made up in other things. So how are the Sound Effects in the game? (Do you actually hear the musket fire when you attack, stuff like that..) and also the game play and music?

Those are really the 2 main questions I had, but please by all means if anyone else would like to throw in some extra comments and all, I would be happy to hear them!.

thank you,

MP

1. I never played Panzer General, but if you want to get a better feel for CNAW, I'd reccomend checking out the AARs people (including myself) have posted on these forums. Just remember that the 1.06 patch makes the game much more balanced, so don't base your judgment on games played on the vanilla version or the earlier patches.

2. There are maybe 2-5 sound effects per action in the game, like infantry attack, etc. For ships, you just get one sound. There is music, but I find music in general distracting when I'm playing strategy games so I turn it off. Overall, the sound is decent, but don't buy CNAW for the audio. That's not what it's really about.

Also, if you're not planning to play against other human players via pbem or online eventually, don't buy this game. The AI was extremely weak in the vanilla version, and they've made it better, but it still doesn't compare to a human opponent. In my view, no AI really can.

I'd disagree on the AI - I only play these games single player as I dont have the time for multiplayer :)

Here's an example for you. Playing as the French in a pbem game, I conquered Russian in 1808. My opponent had spent the previous two years knocking down my port defenses in France with bombard sloops so my new ships wouldn't have any protection. In 1809, not only did the British completely crush my attempt to build a navy, but they invaded and conquered the U.S.! I wouldn't expect an AI to do any of this, no matter how good it is. Playing against human opponents is just more challenging (and fun).
