Gaining Experience

Hi, sometimes I see a flash above one unit when a nearby enemy unit is destroyed, other times I see nothing. I read that every unit within three hexes of a destroyed enemy unit is supposed to get some experience. Is that correct, and if so, what does the flash above one unit only mean? Also, if you have exceeded the time limit, do you cease to gain experience? (I know, there's not supposed to be a time limit but if you exceed it, all kinds of bad things happen to your campaign prospects). If you have six units near to an enemy unit when it is destroyed, does that mean that each nearby unit gets the experience points divided by six? Progression seems very slow and hard to get in this game. I don't think it is as good as any of the Warlords series (yes, even the DOS version 1!)

Yes, all units within 3 hexes gain experience. I don't know exactly how much or how it is divided but, I think it depends on the level and unit type you destroyed. The flash I think your talking about is a level up. When a unit receives enough xp to lvl up you should hear a quick chime and a flash to indicate new lvl. The "time limit" has nothing to do experience or bad things. When you run out you won't be able to collect any treasure from ruins, settlements, etc anymore. It also means when you finished the map, you won't receive any additional gold. For every 1 treasure/supply (whatever its called) on the top right you have left over after completing a map, you receive 25 gold. So if you finished a map with 4 left you will get 100 gold at the end. This game is ridiculously hard, even on easy, but they supposedly made it easier with the last patch. Each map in the Sunken lands took me 1 or 2 whole days to complete. This is also because I reload when I make a tactical error or lose one of my important units that I don't want to die. They designed it with trial and error in mind. You have to try different deployments and moving in different areas over and over again until you find what works. I've never played a game that has tested my patience so much lol, but I'm 2/3rds through so I'm keeping at it. Good luck!
