Seleucid Silver Shields and Companions unavailable for recruitment

Hello,
Could be I missed something but in my Seleucid game Silver Shields and Companions are missing from the capital roster for recruitment.
They are in red (unavailable) in many other cities but not in the Capital (Ctecipho, Sittacene) where they should be available because there is a King's Palace there (condition).
Since they need the King's Palace (which is in the capital) they are not available anywhere else.
I tried to move the capital to another city which had them previously in red. Once the new place became the capital (with King's Palace) they dissapeared from the potential roster and they appeared (in red) in the original one (Ctecipho, Sittacene).
For the rest great game (200+ hours so far)
Best,
Tom

You can only have one of each though, is that the issue? What the tooltip says?

I had been playing as Macedonia, and I only realized now from this thread that there was a one-unit cap. The unit doesn't show up on the build roster, so AFAIK you don't see the explanation of why you can't build them.

Ok indeed the one each cap is the explanation.
I disbanded them and they became available the next turn in my capital to recruit again.
Makes sense historically. But it could be indicated more clearly in the game IMHO.
Thanks and go on the good work.

The Antigonids can recruit multiple Silver Shields units in case you weren't aware which is why they are a pain to fight

I thought they were supposed to be limited to two, but apparently they're unlimited (as well as companions). Was that intended?

Yes, because each cost more than the previous, including a limited increase in upkeep. So in practice you won't have dozens.

The -1 attack they used to have compared to normal phalanx made them.........not that appealing, especially when you factored in cost. Since most units (elephants, companions, phalanx, heavy infantry, mercenaries) in the Antigonid army emphasize attacking rather than defending, having the more defense oriented Silver Shields messed with the synergy a bit.
Now that they have parity with their attack value, they're much more appealing because you're not sacrificing attack power.

Fair enough, but does the increase in cost apply to each one if multiple are bought in a single turn (I'm confused about this for other provincial units as well)?

I don't think so. At least, that's what I've seen when buying lots of Provincial units (the other type that increases cost, but are often cheap enough to buy many early on). Then again, at 200+ money a unit as well as 100 equipment........it takes a serious empire with a solid economy to afford that much in one turn.
