You can't not unless the unit can fly, swim or has a leap ability. You have to spread your army around too all three islands. Winged maidens, and lizardmen have special value in this scenario because they can moves from Island to Island and given if ravencloak has the leap ability he can as well.

ETA: It is explained in the intro text, but it should probably be in the mission text as well so it's more clear.

You can get any unit out of the rightmost island since there is a path of "water" all units can use from the castle to the north along the coast. You can speed it up by using "water boots" artifact and passing them on bwtween units. Leftmost island is different, I use lizards there.
