Rome Pursues??

Trying again as Etrusci, I invade Tiberus. It has a small Roman army sitting there. Of course Rome moves 3 other armies in at the same time (okay).
But after the battles (I win 2 and then Rome wins the 3rd one) I retreat to Etruria and the entire Roman army follows me and we fight again in the new region? I never saw this happen playing Iberia or Lusitania. Is this something unique to Rome? Is it because of their 6 movement?

They must have been on intercept against your army. Although in theory intercept stops when you reach your target but perhaps the 'reach the target' had no time to be referenced, given that as they moved against you, the sequence was battle, then retreat. And so, end of impulse, they are still not with you

So they continue moving with their Sandals of Speed +6

Did you read what I wrote about fighting Rome by the way? You can beat them up to D5 in a pretty reasonable way.

I did read.
I've tried a couple times. Once captured Tiberus but they captured Etruria the same move. Then came and slaughtered me.
I've yet to see them leave Rome empty or weakened. Twice now I've seen a Roman army follow me through 2 regions to attack me.
I may try again, or not. In the middle with a weak faction is not much fun. I tried Syracuse and had much the same with Carthage coming and stomping.

I was very specific on what you had to do. The AI will always go to Picenum on a specific turn and they always siege because I guess they are coded not to assault in nearly any situation. Then you capture Rome. Why would you capture a mediocre province like Tiberius? Is it because the stupid game gives Tiberius as an objective? Devs didn't really think that through. You pretty much literally have to follow the same identical strategy any time you play the Etruscans. There's no room for deviation. And the payoff is not great, because the Etruscans have no interesting mechanics.

Tiberus becomes pretty important later as a specialised source of goods that all the neighbours want for bonuses. But sure, at the start, it's undeveloped and of limited value.

Rome never went for Picenum.

In the context of killing Rome you need to take Rome first to cut off their military options. Not only do they lose their special stuff but its also their best province by a mile.

You wait several turns before declaring war and they never attacked it? That's incredibly unusual. Best option would be to restart a new game at that point.
