Hi, any ideas what this army will look like?

And a question on chariots in general, will some be clasified as lancers (like if one of the passengers has a long spear)?

And while Im at it, will the sea peoples have chariot killing infantry ala the Robert Drews book? If so, what would they be like? From Drews ideas, they would be protected swordsmen, maybe with light spear? probably impact troops... but mounted crunch LF and MF which doent fit.

But yeah, would be interested in what type of chariots and foot the mitanni would field.

No, the chariots are all bow armed. The Mittanni were essentially the nation that brought chariot archery to the battlefield

Most of the Sea People infantry are impact foot, swordsmen. The swordsman capability is handy as it means they will have an advantage in melee and impact foot means they will be on even POA at impact. Of course any self respecting charioteer will shoot them into a mess first then charge.

Lots of bow light chariots. The infantry will be all medium or light foot and a mix of light spear and bow.

No, the chariots are all bow armed. The Mittanni were essentially the nation that brought chariot archery to the battlefield

what about other nations - just interested in general, in the capabilities of chariots - some lancers? some swordsman? etc...

Well for a start I think he has recognised that the chariot remained a major weapon of war following the Sea Peoples which rather causes problems for the idea that his "light infantry swordsmen" were the perfect anti-chariot system.

I'm afraid much more than that I cannot recall as it was only mentioned in passing ages ago by Nigel Tallis on the Ancmed mailing list.

Oh, and as to your chariot capabilities question I believe we have only given them Bow or Light Spear as capabilities. Swordsmen is right out as, even if it were justified, it is effectively subsumed into the way chariots work.

Will there be any 'chariot runners' or are they subsumed as well? How about ability to operate as taxis, i.e. deploy a third passenger to fight on foot?

These are general questions, not neccessarilly related to the mitanni.

No sword I can understand. Light chariot with lance seems to me the obvious classification for Mycenaeans, but I presume from your comments they just have boring old light spear. Or are they classed as heavy chariots, despite only having one fighting crewman?

The Minoan and Early Mycenaean ones with long spears are indeed classified as Heavy Chariots, Light Spear.

The later Myceaean ones are classified as Light Chariots, Light Spear, and dismount as Medium Foot, Armoured, Superior, Undrilled, Offensive Spearmen.

Theoretically, any chariot army could use a chariot BG to transport an infantry BG from one place on the battlefield to another. I guess the relative sizes of he BGs would depend on the density of the foot thus transported. But say, 1:1 for LF, 2:1 for MF and 3:1 for HF

Stefoid, hint. With some UK wargamers, incentives such as Beer and Tickets to Rubgy internationals work as incentives (though not if they are to England games after yesterday's tedium).
