I was making moves during a PBEM and mid-move the game froze the screen. I could Alt-Tab to see the desktop but was stuck in the game, in the end needing to reboot system.

And you say this was while STEAM was updating? And presumably you are using the STEAM version of FOG2?

Yes, it was (unfortunately) a Steam version of the game. Steam wasn't updating itself, it was updating FOG2, from what I could see. After the computer restarted, a FOG2 update was downloaded and the game played OK.

We will see what Pip has to say about this.

I am not sure what could have happened. I would have thought that Steam would avoid updating running games! It is possible that Steam was trying to close the window in some way, but we disable that in MP to make cheating less common, and got itself hung up.
