6mm Base Cutting

Hello. Just getting back into FOG after a little hiatus. I am using 6mm figures and have decided to base them on plastic floor tiles. These are great but orginially I cut them with plain old scissors and now they are less than perfect base sides which as I'm sure we all know, affect how the battle group stands.
So, I want to rebase these figures. Has anyone got any advice on ensuring streight base lines (other than using a ruler and being very careful)?

...only to buy them laser cut. Peter Pig do them in a thin plasticard which I find more appropriate than 2.5mm mdf offered by ERM. The guys who produce hex terrain also do pre-cut plastic too (and in a bigger range of sizes).
If you want to go for it yourself plasticard or lino scored then "snapped" works better than scissors I've found.
