I can't see the site because I'm at work. What is all about? I was thinking about getting Galactic Civilizations 2 in play.com for "march Xmas" (

) but then I heard (vaguely) of this Starforce/GII affair and don't know what's happening. Can anybody explain to me (us) what's in store for me (us) if I (we) buy GII? Thanks a lot in advance.

That is amazingly unethical. Im kind of shocked that they would consider this; it was an attempt at blackmailing them into buying copy-protection. Starforce seems to be a bunch of thugs, plain and simple.
As for what it is... It seems that galciv2 did not have starforce protection, as the makers choose not to have dealings with starforce due to complaints or something. Starforce linked a bunch of torrents for cracked versions of galciv2, allegedly to prove that protection is needed(although this is disproved by a lot of games). Galciv2 spoke to the sites hosting the torrents, who kindly removed them within hours.

I bought Gal Civ II on Saturday but have not had a chance to try it properly yet. There was a weird download manager I had to install & register an account with their online shop then their gaming service, then download different components of the game. Hopefully it will take the place of MOO2 which I still play - just beat up the Bulrathi as the Klackons yesterday

I read about it in their home site
www.galciv2.com
I decided to buy the game ASAP, to support Stardock(I was thinking about getting it anyway). I also went to starforce site, but I didn't found anything. The whole thing is SAD. I never thought of boycotting "starforced" games, but I'll do in the future. There are other copy protections out there for you developers.

I am just stunned. There has to be a lawsuit there.

This is sooo wrong...
Iain, from what i've read so far, i am sure that GalCiv 2 will give you as much fun as Moo2 did....
It's going to be released at the end of the month here and i'll get a copy too.
Cheers
