I was really suprised that the conquistadors are missing in the Armies of America. This fact lowers my interest in the book a lot. And I guess that not just for myself... Is there any chance that the authors will add them to the list? The tactic used by the early conquistadors wasn't different from some late medieval armies in FOG Ancient & Mediaval.

Can we at least expect them in the FOG - Renaissance rulebook?

The conquistadores will not appear in Blood and Gold - they are more properly within the remit of FoG R whenever that may come to pass.

Japanese lists end at 1500.

The conquistadors did not appear on the mainland until almost 20 years after the 1500AD date cut off for FoG.

What army would you use for the Reconquista, then? I don't have Storm of Arrows yet. What time frame is the Castillian list in SoA? I figure, any late reconquista list could be used against Aztecs to represent the Conquistadores.

Not really. (You can't make a FOG battle out of a few conquistadors kidnapping the enemy Emperor).

The vast majority of troops in the army the Conquistadors ultimately led against Tenochtitlan were Tlaxcalans.

The Tlaxcalan list is, of course, in Blood and Gold. You just need to add a few conquistadors.

I would suggest that (although strictly outside the period of FOG: Ancient/Medieval) this topic would be worth discussing on the Player Designed Lists section of this board.

It was the Inca emperor who was kidnapped, though I agree that a 120(+/-) man Conquistadore force (Pizarro) would be hard to represent .

On the same line, Cortes only had 500 or so Conquistadores when he landed. Perhaps a small minimum force of Late Spaniards and a Tlaxcalan Allied force would be ok in a friendly game. But that is another topic for another thread.

What I am still interested in, is which Spanish list would you use for the late 1400's? Is the Castillian list in SoA going to cut it? Or do I need to wait for Oath of Fealty? In my quick lookover of the lists in OoF I didn't see any Spaniars (I will re-check).

Ok, I re-checked Oath of Fealty and the Spanish lists are earlier in scope. So, would Storm of Arrows be the best list for Late Reconquista Spaniards?

Yes

Santa Hermandad Nueva Castilian is the list.

So was the Aztec emperor, 12 years earlier. Which is probably where Pizarro got the idea.

You know, I do remember reading that. I did most of my Aztec and Conquistadore reading a few years back. I will probably have to dig out my books and go through them again.

Next time I head down to the Local Game Store I will take a look at the store copy of SoA and if the Santa Hermandad list looks fun enough, I will probably pick the book up.

I´m not sure that the spanish troops in the early conquest of america should be classified as an Army. Hernan Cortes is the first who conquered some indians tribus (Txacala for example) and he allied later with them to fight against the Aztecs.


Hernan Cortes leaves cuba with this army:

11 Ships
528 Infantry
16 Jinetes
13 Handgunners
32 Crossbowmen
110 Sailors
200 Indians
32 Horses
4 Guns


Less than 1000 mens.


Santa Hermandad Nueva army list, could be used to depict the expeditions of Colon and Pizarro, but not the army of Hernan Cortes. The Santa Hermandad was re-organised in 1497 and in 1503, after this date a Reinaissance army list must be used.
