Baggage Train

Hi all! I'm hoping to get some tips. I'm playing the Dastacticles Euteubor campaign available through community scenarios (I'm presuming made by Das himself?). Thus far it's been an absolute blast, lots of interesting tactical challenges, lots of variety, and the Bactrian army list is cool to play around with.

Then I got to the baggage train scenario, and it is the most infuriating thing I have ever experienced in this game. It is sooooo hard. The Sarmatians surround me on all sides, they have gallons of shock cavalry, they outnumber me by about 3:2, and all they have to do is touch three of my four baggage waggons and I lose. I've tried funneling my train up the middle--I lost because my forces were spread too thin. I've tried moving as a column--I lost because I couldn't cover my train on all sides. I've tried setting up a perimeter and turtling--I lost because flank charges rained in from all over the shop and decimated my troops.

It's not so much that I mind losing (I mean, I do mind, but I could get over it), it's the sense that I am learning absolutely nothing with each defeat and getting no closer to actually winning. Has anyone beaten this scenario? Any tips on what to do? What units to bring?

Generally I have found baggage train battles easier to win by inflicting routs than getting the baggage through. You should keep the majority of your force in tight group and only use some light/medium units to slow down the flanking enemy groups so you don't need to fight them all at once on every direction. You could watch Das's own playthrough of the campaign for tips as well.

Given terrain obstacles, enemy troops and the slow speed of baggage carts, I've never gotten a single one off the map before breaking the enemy army instead. Thus, it's better to focus on ganging up and killing the enemy forces which are more divided than yours initially. Depending on terrain and match-ups, I normally have overloaded on one of the flanks first, then turned to deal whichever front offered the next best option for slaughter. Just make sure you keep your baggage out of harms way and the way of your troops. Also, don't deploy it in forests initially, as you won't be able to move, a lesson I learned the hard way in one campaign.
