Hi from a newbie to this game

4 days of play has brought me to the shores of Africa and now I must face Hasdrubal.

Little puzzled by the victory conditions of this battle, while I understand I must beat the enemy within the time limit.
I fail to understand why I still lose when the Carthaginian army has fled the field and Hasdrubal + probably a small bodyguard under attack from 3 units of cavalry and surrounded by the rest of the roman force counts as a Carthaginian win or at least a draw.

Who is this guy can he win all by himself ? :(

Oh well as they say third times the charm :)

The idea is to simulate that if you do not destroy the enemy army completely then it will rally itself and come back at you. There are no half way houses in Legion Arena - you either win or lose :)

Well I beat him the third time, set my archers on him as early as possible that did the trick.

I just considered that given the situation it didnt matter if the enemy rallied it was still maybe 75% of my army against probably 20 men with Hasdrubal.

It seemed to me that it would make sense that its a win no matter what any general even Julius would surrender or commit suicide when surrounded at odds of some 400 to 1

Maybe the AI need to recognise that unless the victory conditions demand the death of the enemy General he doesnt count as an army unit for purposes of deciding when an army is defeated.

That said I am new to the game and shouldnt be too critical when I havnt fully explored the game, guess I dont like losing battles :D

BTW like the suggestion elsewhere in the forum of promoting units to better types ie Millitia to Auxilia etc

SPQR and all that.
