I thought I would seperate the thread as Ian suggested.

I like using mixed units in a combined arms force, and naming them as Romans, Sabines, Etruscans, Nervi, Eubrones, Bellovaci, whatever.

I also have to install Legion Gold again.

I learned from roman campaign's early stages enemy armys deployments.
For exsample, deploying light infantries and heavy infantries in alternately, like heavy, light, heavy, light, heavy.
And also skirmishers with javelins massing behind line infantries at either flank.

Combined arms is totally where it's at, as far as the SP game.

A well-balanced force is always optimal over the long run.

Hi you guys,

Yeah, CA works just like the real deal. Plus, if you have upgraded skirmishers they can engage heavies and lights in melee once their missiles are used up. The Romans did employ Velites in close combat, they were versatile troops.

I have to patch the game and start another campaign soon, but there are a lot of other things that I am also doing.

Especially in later campaigns, having strong archers and cavalry becomes more critical. My first time through, I concentrated on building up a huge front line of legionnaires and praetorians, but the posts here convinced me of the need for cavalry and archers, and also the need to give them special attention in your battle plans, especially the cavalry.

So now I am using a more balanced force, with much greater effect.
