I have a bunch of Teutonic Knights to paint. Problem is I have never had a lot of sucess painting white cloth(all that barding). Does anyone have an easy method for this? I use a white primer.

I have seen this used but haven't used it myself so take with a grain of salt. i tend to try and layer but taked a long time for whites.
Paint the figure white then varnish the area. Apply light washed of watered down grey paint. the Varnish helps the wash to go only in the crevases or flods of the cloth.
Can alos try washes with a small amount of dishwashing liquid in them to break the surface tension of the wash and achieve the same result.
Can alos be used with other colours such as blue or brown for different effects
Cheers

Greetings;
The best method I have found, and i had a Teutonic army (in fact one of the posters on the forum has it, and posted pictures under some Teutonic AAR's), is to paint the barding a light gray, and then use 2 progressive shades lighter with pure white as your lightest highlight. Looks very good IMO. On my army, I used a red to outline the white (a Russian book on Lake Peipus as a guide).

Depends on the result you want.
For the super quick and easy method, I use white primer spray (I use the army painter one which I like best), apply the base coats on the mini (armor, the black cross,...), the white parts having been taken care off by the primer (you might need to retouch a place or two but otherwise you're all set) and then I apply a fine coat of army painter dark shade WITH A BRUSH (really important, don't dip... otherwise it'll become dark grey) on the whole mini...
highlight the edge of the white areas with white paint if needed and you're done.
Worked for me... might not be Golden Demon standard but it's very fast and looks well for battlegroups.

I use a basecoat of khaki, then highlight with off white - gives quite a natural look
this may not be white enough for Teutons
For these guys I used shades of grey - but not getting as far as white

I use GW Bleached Bone, highlighted with white.
For off white I use Valleho German Camo Beige, highlighted with GW Bleached Bone.

Different tips here.
Primer white + black wash + white paint except the hollows + white wash in the hollows to highlight the black wash.
Here is the result before I put the VVV black cross on shields.

Thanks for all the input guys.
Frederic,
Thanks, that is the look that I am searching for. What kind of dilution do you use for the black and white washes?

I start with a black primer, followed by heavy drybrush leaving black in the folds. The drybrush color can be cream or grey, followed by white highlights. I had yet to find a use for light colored washes, so the idea of a white wash to temper a black base is intriguing. Thanks, Fred.

For the black wash, something around 1/5 should be enough for. My preparation for other black wash is 1/3 but for painting white it's a little too dark.
For the white wash I made it manually, so don't really know. Usually I put several (2-3) white wash until the grey looks correct to me.
