Can some bases of a BG be off table at deployment?

MF in particular, esp. if in column, have a hard time fitting. Especially rear support BGs. Can some bases of a BG be off table when everything is deployed, trailing column ends...and march on to the table during first moves?
Or do all bases have to be deployed on the table?

Everything must be on the table.

NOthing I can find says you can't have a kinked column bending as it nears the back board edge.

if you have a long column just snake/kink the rear of the column back parallel to your table edge

P23 gives the information on permitted formations and IMO it is clear that kinking only happens as a result of movement - 1st exception.
As there is no turn zero there is no movement before or at deployment and so you cannot deploy kinked.

You could always use them as a flank march.

Why not put them in column going sideways and wheel them 90 degrees on the first move. Although I can't really see how you can have so much trouble fitting your BGs on the table when you have a 10" deployment zone.

In 25mm, once you've placed your camp there is just enough room to get a deep BG in front of it, ie 2 deep cav, 4 deep pike etc... It can cause problems and limits your ability to set up rear support right from the beginning.
Wheeling (or turning) 90deg in front of your camp with large undrilled warbands is only for those that like to live on the edge.

Giving pike phalanxes rear support isn't very historical. This is why we did not give a deeper deployment zone in 25/28mm.
There is enough room in front of the camp for the vast majority of historical deployments. (Note that the Byzantine second line was interrupted by gaps).

Granted. We hadn't considered it an issue, just pointing out there isn't always 10inches to play with... Ooerrr Mrs.
Sorry. I lined that one up. The devil made me do it.

The space squeeze was from thinking of deploying a 6pak of MF (25mm) in a column so as to be able to gain 1MU whilst moving through difficult ground. This left only space for 2MF bases behind...and the support BG was a 4pak.
25mm can get a little tight sometimes...not complaining...i very much like how a 25mm game plays...but the increase in base size but maintaining of MU size does cause some definite differences.
There were solutions: a) Place the support BG to one side and move a base width over each time it moves...etc.
Just was wondering if I could straggle the thing off and come on in first move.
