reading history of swiss army, i notice how well they used barricades and other FF to avoid mounted

in FOG, mounted can freely cross them if nobody defends them and they don't even offer a good protection, i am sure that LF defending behind FF cannot be a problem for mounted cavalry charging them. I think they are not be enought restricitve to moves for mounted.

ur opinion?

The FF cancel out any "in the open" factors which nullifies most mounted POAs directlt, and Lt SP usually indirectly as it only appliews if POAs are equal and they won't be due ot the FF.


LF Jav vs Armoured Cv
The defenders will get a + for defence.
If LF Jav behind fortifications you will get 1 dice at ++ vs 2 dice at -- at impact.
In melee it will be equal and the cavalry will have 2x the dice.
This is about right IMO. The mounted troops are running a very big points risk with 15pt+ cavalry vs 4 pt per base LF. The Cv are likely to win again me in loin cloths with javelins but I expect they would normally. However the risk is rather high for the cavalry. Anything better than these LF and it gets more challenging.

The freedom to move over defended ones is to avoid their unrealistic abuse as over effective barricades without any troops associated with them. Many rulesets make them too strong and try to model time explicitly, whereupon such fences really get in the way. In reality it would simply be a "phase of battle" while the enemy troo-ps knocked enough down to move through them. Hence the method used to reflect this as FOG is build around phases of battle rather than a constant time scale to moves.

FWIW the ideal FF troops against a mounted army are Unprot MF Bowmen IMO, in terms of value for money. They get extra dice from the second rank at impact and the front rank is usally on a + at contact. And you get to put some shooting at them on the way in. Quite realistic. I have been testing them out in my Ottoman Army of late. Unfortunately they don't do that well against pikemen!! (
