Cohesion test question

Am I right in thinking the only time you'd ever apply the 'More than 1 reason to test' factor is if an adjacent BG breaks and its attached leader is killed in the same phase?

It also applies if two nearby BGs break in the same phase, each one of them counting as a separate reason to test. Or if two commanders are lost. I don't remember this being obvious from the rues, but IIRC the authors have said that it is the case.

I know this sounds obvious, but does this mean that if one BG breaks, then the next BG tests for that break and itself breaks, that a third BG in range of both will have two reasons to test? I gather this would also apply the causes were from direct sources-- e.g. two BGs break from combat, from the same of different opponent(s). To date, I'd been playing like Stenic suggests. I'll have to adjust...

There are a few different ways to have the more than one reason to test modifier but it is more likely that when there are multiple causes there will be seperate tests.
Look at the sequence of play, you will see that in the impact phase for example you could test cohesion umpteen times. The more than one reason normally means the same thing has happened twice, so two BGs break, two commanders die etc.

Good question I confused myself trying to answer this. Need a rule book. But all BG that break in the same phase are tested for together. So 2 BG breaking from melee cause the same test if tester within 3 MU of both. But do any broken from this cause a new test or does it just add to the tests already going on. Can't remember now. Aaaarghh!

If any BGs break as a result of testing to see friends break, then any subsequently testing BGs will count -1 for 2 causes to test if they are within 3 MUs of both. However, any BGs that have already tested for seeing the first one break (in this sub-phase) don't have to test again for seeing the 2nd one break. You can choose the order of testing, so it is usually best to test the ones with the dodgiest cohesion last.
