A group of us got together for a Roman Civil war game using 800 points a side. The group is very new with the rules. With no one having played more than a couple of games. We had a situation where MF during the impact phase charge a group of double rank LH that was directly to the front. The way we play it was because the LH was double rank and not single rank it was not allow to evade and had to stand and fight.
Second situation was a group of slingers charjavascript:emoticon(':?:')ge a legion in rear. After the game I re read the rules and think that we were wrong on both counts. (?)

LH in ANY formation can evade. the single rank requirement is not for them but CV and LCH.
LF cannot charge formed units in the open...even up the bum.

Where the rules refer to 'cavalry' they mean specifically the troop type called cavalry, not anyone on a horse. If the rules want to refer to all anyone on a horse then they use the term 'mounted'.
That said I find one of the best ways to learn any game is to play and then read the rules again after the game looking at areas where things seemed wrong during the game. It is much better to keep things moving and then sort out errors after the event.
