I've got a 600 point army that's been largely imposed on me by my DBM army and the figures that I had for that. I'd like people's coments on how effective they think it might be and the best way to use it.
CinC FC
2x TC
2x 8 bases of longbow with stakes
8 bases of billmen, Armoured, Average, Drilled
6 bases of dismounted men-at-arms, Heavy armour, Superior, Drilled
6 bases of Gascon Knights, Heavy armour, Average, Undrilled
6 bases of Irish Kerns
I've only had a couple of games with them so far and not finished one yet as we're still learning the rules at my club.
I'm also planning to increase it to 800 points when I get the hang of the rules by adding Irish light horse, 2 more 8 base battle groups of longbow and mess around with the dismounted men-at-arms a bit.
All helpfull comments and suggestions welcome.
Also most of the battles will be out of era.
Thanks.

I would look to reduce the Gascons to 4 quickly. And then paint lots more longbow. At lower points I would probably run longbow in 6s but there is a good argument for some in 8s.

I have used one of these armies a few times, this is just my take on it all drilled all supierior troops.
Do away with the knights men at arms and irish troops, use the points to increase your billmen and longbows.
Fight in terrian with Longbows with billmen to support them and they do well just as they were were in real life.
This is just what i have found to work for me might not for you.

I've used HYW English in many formats and it's important you find the one that works best for you.
The billmen are very good in 4's as Superior. Ditto the dismounted men-at-arms. They are manourverable and deployed in column can provide rear support to 2 BGs of 8 LB. 6 dismounted men-at arms are rock hard but too easy for your opponent to avoid and v expensive.
Mounted won't come near you with stakes, If you want to win, lose the stakes. You might lose as a result - but it makes for a much more exciting game!
If you can, buy an IC.
The kerns are filler - drop them to 4. Use them to pin the enemy but keep them out of harm's way. The Irish LH are better for the same job - but can't interpenetrate your foot.
Buy more LB. 6's are more manouverable. 8's pack more punch and are more resilient. You pay your money and take your choice.
I've never tried the mounted Knights - but a useful BG - although 4 would give you options elsewhere.
Have fun with them though.
