What is the highest award a unit can get ? This is a screenshot from the end of the grand campaign (Berlin Redux).

I think it is: Knight's Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds

Based on my understanding, the third place remains empty for German troops as the game only uses Iron Cross and Knight's Cross (of the Iron Cross)... in some consecutive manner, so you only have a max of one each at any point in time (so a max of two in total). The German Cross is not used (probably for good reasons, maybe compare the links to the legal and historical context below).

Some time ago I found this list of medals awarded for the Grand Campaign:
100 kills - Iron Cross 2nd Class
400 kills - Iron Cross 1st Class
800 kills - Knight's Cross
1300 kills - Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves
1900 kills - Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords
2600 kills - Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds
3500 kills - Knight's Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds
