Ordonnance French - 800pt list questions

To start, I'm a newb. I'm working on a list that will look something like what is below. My questions:
(1) the 26pt knights seem great, but so are the drilled LB... what's a good mix where the total # of BGs is greater than 8 (in period, and out)?
(2) what do people think of the poor LB? It seems like a real bargain and I'm tempted to maxx out (3x6 for 18 bases), anyone tried it or have thoughts? This seems like a potentially cost-effective use of poor troops if I can keep them from being easily killed fodder...
(3) How do you best deal with shooty cav armies that avoid the pike/HW center, especially when BGs run away fragged to recuperate?
(4) of course - any glaring problems with my list?
Unfortified camp
1xIC
2xTC
2x4 bases of Knights, Heavy, Superior, Drilled, Lancers, Swordsmen
2x8 bases of MF, Protected, Average, Drilled, Longbow, Swordsmen
with 8 bases of Defensive Stakes
1x8 bases of MF, Unprotected, Poor, Undrilled, Longbow
2x8 bases of HF, Protected, Superior, Drilled, Pikemen,
1x6 bases of HF, Armoured, Average, Undrilled, Heavy Weapon
1x6 bases of LF, Unprotected, Average, Undrilled, Javelins, Light Spear
1x4 bases of LF, Unprotected, Average, Drilled, Crossbow
1x4 bases of LF, Unprotected, Average, Drilled, Firearm
Many thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Personally with such a small army do you need a IC? I and seriously thinking about going with 1xFC and 2xTC instead for 4xTC to free up some points for my HYW army which has 12 BGs.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought about going 4xTC. I had two thoughts on this (1) IC is good defense against LH and Cav/Bow, plus generally good for CTs and CMTs... and (2) not sure where two TCs would be more useful than the IC since I have a shooty army. But then again, I'm a beginner... I haven't even played DBM/x. 4xTC means I could put a TC on each Kn group and split them up... or use them to maneuver the good MF/LB more effectively. Putting them the HF seems like it wouldn't help too much except for the 6 BG heavy weapon average contingent. I'm not sure how much a small Superior pike unit will benefit by going to elite.
Still not sure on this. Part of me just wants to see how useful an IC is in practice because I'm used to 650 lists with 3xTC.

The problem with poor unprotected is that enemy shooters will get + and put a lot of hits and you are less likely to survivie.
I am moving in the direction of having fewer quality troops rather than lots of bulk. Also if I was your opponent almost any BG I have could have a chance of beating these guys.
So you really have to be disciplined about not letting them get in a vulnerable position.
1 BG could be considered...but 3 seems a waste.

One is required... my current "go" list only includes one (8 instead of the minimum 6). I'm tempted to use 3 to bulk up on BGs and shooting dice, but the + POA on shooting from opponents could be rough. However, if these guys are between and behind other bases (slightly offset, in the gaps, say 2-3 base width) they should never be targets unless I am flanked, in which case they become early flank guards. And I only expect this would come from Cav/Bow... who only have a range of 4, so I might get extra rounds of shooting. LF/LH would need 6 bases shooting to even have a chance at causing a CT. Not having played it, I'm not sure how effective this sort of deployment would be... surely my opponent would be scared of all the LB and would not make it easy, so the undrilled bit is my biggest concern.

I would'nt go with the unprotected LB they'd just attract ememy shooters

What I would do is look at the troops you can use and see which are the killer troops.
Looking at the list The Knights are good troops most people will try and keep out of the way of them. The others are your Longbow BG good if you keep them in terrian behind your stakes good against mounted but will die quick against foot in combat. I would drop the LF all togther use points for other troops. The 1 BG of Heavy weapon troops is too few to do anything with can't support the MF, If you can get more knights have them. Just a few ideas but have fun with whatever you pick post any results you get would like to see how you get on.

2 small BGs of LF are very useful for putting in front of the Knights to prevent them from having to test not to charge enemy skirmishers.

I found when i tried that my LF were just charged by other light troops and therefore had to evade through the Knights, but hay thazt was just me.

They can evade through the knights without any detrimental effect cant they? Isnt that what you'd want?

True, but if charged by other light troops the chargers can stop one MU from the knights thereby clearing your lights from in fron t of the Knights. Unless theres a way to stop this it becomes a bit of a problum?
