Inspired by my recent purchase of CTGW, and to help immerse me in the game, I am now reading John Keegan's "The First World War" (Alfred A. Knopf, 1999). An even-handed account (doesn't focus on the British, for example), in broad detail the book explains the whys of the fighting and the overall conflict. Most illuminating. Highly recommended.
