I think the foot spearmen have to be protected but I haven't got the list handy. If you have a choice, I would definitely have them protected.

I would also take the drilled version of the army. It can get out of the way where it needs to and concentrate the firepower to a greater extent.

And with the bag of rubbish in that army (i.e. the unprotected MF) then it might want to get out of the way flipping quickly...

And I would take more elephants

I agree with more elephants, and trying to place them late on in the march order, to set them against ideal target.

You don't have enough bow for the Classical Indian list. You need 24 bases.

Just a quick list but how about the following:
Mauryas 321 to 180 BC
1 FC
2 TCs
2 x 2 EL average undrilled
1 x 4 Hchariot superior drilled bow
1 x 4 cav protected average drilled light spear
3 x 8 archers med foot unprotected average drilled bow sword
2 x 8 Javelinmen med foot protected average drilled light spear sword
1 x 6 Forest Tribesmen light foot unprotected average undrilled bow
650 pts if my math is correct

I agree. I'd drop the heavy chariot and buy two more Elephant BGs. I'd focus on Elephants at 650. I'd consider making the MF archer BGs six bases rather than eight--will give you and extra attrition point.

Dropping the heavy chariots will only give you 88pts. Enough for another battlegroup of Elephants but not 2. Maybe add a BG of Clubmen.
Mauryas 321 to 180 BC Revised
1 FC
2 TCs
3 x 2 EL average undrilled
1 x 4 cav protected average drilled light spear
4 x 6 archers med foot unprotected average drilled bow sword
2 x 8 Javelinmen med foot protected average drilled light spear sword
1 x 6 Forest Tribesmen light foot unprotected average undrilled bow
1 x 4 Clubmen med foot protected average undrilled heavy weapon
640 pts if my math is correct
Of course if you designate some of the troops as allied you might could squeeze a 4th general into the mix.

That's a good list. If you drop one BG of Javelinmen you could afford the 4th Elephant BG--with some points left over.
