Hi All ,
Commanders' unit routs off table ( or auto breaks ) in JAP . He is within bow range of enemy . He has no other friendlies around .
Is he (a) removed , as per p50 ,last bullet "if a BG's move.." or is he (b) not removed but is free to move next turn as p50 only applies in the enemy movement phase ie a unit must move into range of an isolated Gen ?

I hope the question makes sense

Thanks

Since the BG must have routed in a prior phase, this is not its initial rout so he need not accompany it off table. Before the routs are moved, he may move off. Come the opponent's movement phase, he may be in trouble as you noted under the p50 rules.

P50 is in the general movement rules section, therefore it applies in any phase. However, it only applies when the enemy BG is actually moving (as you put it: "ie a unit must move into range of an isolated Gen"). In the JAP this could be a routing or pursuing BG. An isolated commander is allowed to move himself within shooting range of enemy with no penalty until the enemy actually move.

Thanks ,

So a pursuing BG is in range of a now isolated Commander at the end of JAP . The Commander has completed his JAP move but is still in bow range . Does p50 now apply ?

Does the phrase "a battle groups move .." refer to any movement ( impacts, pursuits etc ) or only "normal" movement in the movement phase ?

Cheers

P50 is in the chapter that applies to all movement, not the chapter "Manuoevre phase", therefore it applies to all phases and all kinds of movement.

If an enemy BG pursues to within shooting range of an isolated commander then p50 applies.

If an enemy BG is already within shooting range and does not move, then there is no effect on the commander, even if he was with a friendly BG that has just routed away, leaving him isolated.
