terminator having posted this image in another thread gave me an idea:


Erik routinely transcribes lengthy popup message text verbatim in hopes of the developers someday allowing for more roomy message boxes. The more realistic modders among us ( ) would do well to know the maximum amount of characters, including spaces, that are allowable. It turns out that the number is 350:


Knowing this will save me much time and effort. Maybe you, too.

Here's one caveat: The use of capitalized letters may affect the maximum count so I'm keeping 350 in mind as an approximation, not an absolute. I'm not sure about the message box but it sure is true for the title that capitals take up more space. For that reason, I always capitalize only initial letters rather than all of them. That is, "Continuation War" instead of "CONTINUATION WAR." That way, a descriptive title does not go beyond the boundaries of the popup message, which is unsightly!

Would it be too far-fetched to presume from your post that you're working on something new?
