Question on Pursuer Impact

We had a Knight BG roll up in pursuit in their turn, which was blocked from catching the routers because the move tagged the very end of a third BG, who had set up for a flank charge on the Knights before the Knights' opponents broke. Although the third BG was essentially on the flank, since the pursuers contacted them on that end base I want to confirm that the Impact is treated as frontal in Impact so in the following melee phase the contacted BG has to swing about 90 degrees to in front of the Knights, other units in the way permitting.

Is that right?

Code: Select all

Contacted BG bases = CC
Knight Pursuers = KK
Arrrow indicates pursuit stopped when K contacts tip of C.

C
 C
 CC
CC CONFORMS in pre-melee MOVEMENT AS?
   CC KK
    CC KKKKKK
      C | KK
       C V KKKKKKK
                                  CCCCCCCC
       ROUTERS

Had the contacted BG charged it would have been a flank charge. Bad luck the routers broke too soon. .

Thanks

Mike

Knights would conform to the charged unit not the target to the charger. At least that is my understanding of the Conforming rules on page 70.

Conforming is done by the "active" BG - i.e. belonging to the player whose turn it is.

looks right to me.

Did you remember that you cannot do a flank charge if any part of your BG is in front of the target BG?

From your diagram it looks as though CC would not have had a flank charge, but this might be due to the imprecise nature of ASCII art. If it was a potential flank charge then the knghts must have wheeled towardsCC during their pursuit.

I was thinking a pursuit should be straight ahead !

If the pursued shift/contract/turn to avoid terrain and are no longer to the front of the pursuers, the pursuers can wheel to keep chasing them.

To clarify:

If CC had a potential flank charge on KK, then a straight-ahead pursuit by KK could not have contacted CC.

They could only contact CC if they wheeled during the pursuit. This could only happen if they were following routers who routed at a strange angle for some reason, e.g. jre's comment.
