If you buy the Panzer Lehr -specialisation you'll get a four star Panther G. In addition the Tank School -spec should be disabled but instead it is Panzerfibel you lose. This means newly purchased tanks will have only one star and not two. Don't know which way is the intended one, but either the text or the effect should be fixed. Besides, buying Panzerfibel already disables Tank School (or rather makes it redundant).

One of the frustrating things about specialisations is that you cannot get a look at how the effects work. Specialiations.csv is just a control mechanism; the effect itself is buried someplace in one of those resources files, I guess.

These are the texts:

Based on your rep, Cool, i.e., you know what you are talking about, I will post this to the bug database but perhaps if you still have the game saved at some point, or you wish to test it with a restart, if you could post some follow-up demonstrations and screen prints, that would be helpful. I will link the database issue to this thread.

EDIT: Actually, I think you can hold off on that follow-up. My instinct says the effect is correct, given the progression shown above, and just the text needs to be corrected. I told them so in the bug database; they'll take a look at it and decide.

EDIT 2: Here's another thought, though. Why should Panzer Lehr cancel either Panzerfibel or Tank School? All Panzer Lehr does, as far as I can tell, is award one experienced unit. I asked them that question as well. Let's see what they say and do. Thanks.

Thanks, Bru! The first chance to buy Panzer Lehr is between Novgorod and Vyazma which is where I am now. I started with an imported core but even with the default core the player will have both Panzerfibel and Tank School at the beginning of the DLC.

It is indeed possible this works as designed except for the text which should then be "Disables the Panzerfibel specialisation effect (and re-enables Tank School)". The rationale is that using training/demonstration units for combat will have a detrimental effect on training and therefore the experience level of new tank units decreases.

That's an interesting comment. That's your thinking or something you read elsewhere about the Panzer Lehr specialisation? Regardless, I posted it in the bugs database as well, leaving it in their hands.

Well, it is a logical conclusion. But I'm sure I've read of the effect also. For instance Axis History Forum has info about this and an interesting tidbit of the issue in general: "A US officer in one of the Iraq Wars described the use of similar US demonstration units in combat as being like, "Eating your own seed corn"."
