GameRanger: a new place to play Spartan online

Hi all (and Iain

), just thought I'd let you know about a new multiplayer network I've created for playing Spartan (and its demo) online called GameRanger.
Basically, GameRanger makes it quick and easy to play your friends online.
It has full lobby support for over 500 different games and demos (including Spartan, of course), without the hassles and headaches that usually happen with network connections (eg. routers & firewalls).
I'm really excited to be releasing it, and hope it helps boost the Spartan community by allowing people to play that were unable to until now due to problems with opening ports, etc.
You can download it at
www.GameRanger.com

Cool, I hope it works, but this game is pretty old so not many people are in multiplayer any more.

Thanks, Iain. Yeah, even if the community itself doesn't pick up though, this should at least make it easier for people to play a pre-organised game.

Hmm, I'd be interested!
Spartan, Legion, Gates of Troy, and Chariots of War are all timeless classics. There is a sizable group here at Slitherine that still digs these old gems out and plays them from time to time

Good news Scott. Unfortunately, Spartan and Gates of Troy suffer from a game-killer graphics bug in the latest OS. The terrain renders black in the battle screens.

Can you be more specific. What video card and OS are you talking about? It's probably a driver bug sadly - I doubt the DX7 paths (which Spartan and Troy use) get a lot of love these days...
Cheers

The Mac versions of both games. I'm running 10.5.5 currently. I don't recall at which point in the OS evolution it busted - likely from 10.4 to 10.5 though. The Mac publisher no longer sells it or supports it. My video card is an ATI Radeon X1600.

triari, GameRanger currently only supports the Windows versions of these particular games.

Hhmpff! No wonder it doesn't show up in "My Games."

No worries, it's not playable anyway on the Mac with the black-rendering-terrain-bug-thingy.
