Was this an SP or MP game and are you using any mods?

It looks to me as if this error message is what you get when you try to load the saved game. I suspect that the error message (if any) that you got when the game crashed at the end of your turn would have been different, and that the crash occurred while the game was attempting to write the save file. This could have been due to something interfering with writing the file, or with some other unrelated cause.

What exactly were you doing when the game first crashed?

Are you running any software such as Google Drive or anything similar, that may be attempting to backup files from the /Documents/My Games/FieldOfGlory2 folder before the game has finished writing them?

Please can you copy the appropriate date-stamped error.log file from /Documents/My Games/FieldOfGlory2

Note that the error.log file is overwritten every time you start the game, so what we need to see is the date stamped file from when the initial crash occurred.

MP game with no mods.
Both error messages came when trying to end turn. They appeared one after the other.
I was sending game to server at the end of my turn when it crashed.
Yes I always have Google Drive running for backup purposes and always will have numerous applications running at the same time.
Original Error.Log file has over 290,000 characters and is too large to copy here as you have a limit of 60,000 characters.

add it to a zip file

disable and retry, and with other applications disabled, as any one can conflict with a game running, best advice is always the least amount of background apps and programs running the better

I need my other apps running all the time and it has never been a problem.

if a back up device, software or hardware tries to access a file the same time as the game users it or needs it, it will crash, same as if a anti virus runs on a game file, it crashes, or hangs the game, the more apps and programs running, the more likely the program will error at some point, maybe wrong, will have to wait until the developer looks at the file and comments

Thanks for the error log.

This is one for Pip. I will draw his attention to it.

We have had problems with Google Drive interfering with the file saving/loading process for MP games before. We thought we had fixed it, by flushing the file buffers more often, but perhaps not.

Can you set Google Drive to exclude the folder /Documents/My Games/FieldOfGlory2 and its sub-folders?

That probably won't make the corrupted game work, but it will hopefully stop the issue from happening again.

Thanks Richard will do!

This issue appeared after a W10 update and as Richard says we thought we had solved it. Are you running the latest version of the game (I assume you must be otherwise the MP server would complain and request that you update, but just checking)?

I will take another look at the skirmish map temporary file.

Cheers

Pip

Pip is working on another fix for this issue, but it will need to be beta tested before it goes live. In the meanwhile the only solution would appear to be to exclude the aforementioned directory from Google Drive. Is that possible?
