2 types of crashes

Hi,
both happen with Slitherine version 1.0 and 1.02.

1. Right now the game is unplayable on that machine because of this one: Every time after 1-3 turns the game will hang when the message "Please wait. The map is updating..." is displayed, clicking once will display the OS "busy" mouse cursor, clicking a second time will result in a crash. The error.log is empty, and the aggressors.log is attached.

2. Curiously - and maybe related - the game will only offer OpenGL modes, even though every other game prefers DirectX on that machine.
If I force the use of DX9, the game crashes on start-up and the error.log is:

Code: Select all

Hi Munin,
thank you for reporting this.
I am not sure how did you try to "force" the game to use DirectX but that is definitely NOT how it should work. The game works with OpenGL and there is no reason to think that it is worse than DirectX. DirectX is not supported by the game.

Can you please ensure that you have the latest GPU driver? Can you also run this batch file. We have few reports about antivirus preventing the game run properly because it doesnt give it an access to its own files in the documents folder.
Please let me know if that helped.
Pavel

Can you please forward me the save file you are playing? Also please use only the latest available version when play.
Thank you
Pavel

Same in 1.04 and 1.05 - after max. 3 turns the game hangs and after two clicks crashes.

There's no save - I just start a game, any game as whatever faction, play for max 3 turns, hang, crash, that's all.
Changing game settings has no effect.

I already use the latest drivers available, but that doesn't mean much, as AMD's OpenGL drivers are notoriuosly bad.
Stars in Shadow - which also uses OpenGL - for example has quite a bit of special code to make AMD drivers not blow up.

I did so by changing the ogre.cfg and initialsettings.config files. The DirectX .dlls for Ogre are there so I thought I'd give it a try. But, of course, if you don't support it at all the DLLs are of no use, and the force will fail :-)

Looks like I'm out of luck with this game, shame really :-(

Thanks anyway!

Hi Munin320,
can you please get back to OpenGL usage and once it crashes, use the error tool and send me the report (there is a big button for that).
Thank you
Pavel

Hi Munin320,
we would really like you to be able to play the game. Please PM me if you are willing to do one-to-one support (either via Discord or Skype). I hope we will be able to figure it out!
