Medieval Danish armies

I am in the middle of creating a medieval Danish army, mainly as its so different. Because of this I have been searching the net for any information on them as well as getting the ospray books.
Now the question, why are the levy archers/crossbows Light foot, when the accounts in effect say that they fought in blocks of 50/50 with the spear armed levy, which for me would be unarmoured MF. The list allows them to be 1/2 or 1/3 I think for the little I've found that the option of 1/2 MF or 1/3 LF would make sense.
This isn't trying to creat supper troops as they are poor and if I want more good troops I'll take Swedish/allies.
Help required before I base the figures
Many thanks
Mike.

Because 1 rank deep Sp would not get a Spears POA, so we think the 2/3 Sp 1/3 LF representation gets the closest to the right effect that we can. Getting the right effect is (in our opinion) more important that slavish adherence to bottom up considerations which often give the wrong results.

Yes I see this and would with the lists in their current format use two ranks of spear backed up by LF.

My question was as the lists stand it offers 1/2 as well as a 1/3Lf and this really can only mean one rank Hf and one rank Lf as it stands I thought the option of Mf would fit this better, however I will of course comply but wanted the option if possible as an alternative, similar to the select levy or like the burgundians, yes I know the POA for two ranks of spear would be lost, but you pays your money and takes the choice.

Mike.

They got rid of them after they ate all the buns. Hence the invention of Danish pastries ! :D

One of my few regrets having now stopped playin DBM was that I couldn't make the German baggage including the circus animals so I could really claim that my Medieval German army did indeed include elephants and camels ;)

Take them as a group of 8, 4 HF and 4 LF. That way you have the option of putting the HF two deep and "waste" one rank of LF or deploy the HF one deep with LF support to occupy space. Either way, they aren't the battle winners.

Anybody got a good link for Danish flags and heraldry from the Union era?

In a second rank they also shoot at half effect, give support shooting in Impact, and count half effect in melee with front rank POAs. Though in all these areas it would be better if they were MF.
